Wow…did I read that correctly? Did I just see that the NCAA is forcing the University of Oklahoma to comletely erase the entire 2005 season and essentially pretend that it didn’t happen? Sweet! That is so sweet and I’ll tell you why. It is sweet because if the NCAA, the Big 12 and the University can pull this off and actually scrub memories from reality, that mean the chances of me pretending 1988 didn’t happen are increased, and boy would I like to offcially erase 1988 from the books. You see, I made a bunch of really stupid mistakes in 1988 (much like OU did in 2005) and I’d like to scrub them record. Make ‘em go bye-bye, flash the little thingy from Men in Black and delete events from people’s memory. Hmmmmm….wait a minute…now that I think about it, this is horrible. Until just now I think I had actually finally managed to forget about all these things in real life, and now I’ve re-remembered them…arrgggh! I did it the old fashioned way, you know, I just repressed all of the bad memories until I eventually was able to convincve myself they didn’t happen……and now I’ve blown it. Now I’ve revived them. Damn! Well, I guess it beats whatever Bob Stoops is doing right now. Unbelievable. I have no problem with the NCAA coming down absurdly hard on OU, but if the NCAA fails to carry out consistent penalties and punishments for similar offenses to other programs, then we’ll have to add NCAA Football to the growing list of sport organizations screwing this up for fans. If the NCAA fails in their efforts and enforce their rules consistently, it’ll be another black eye on another big-time sporting interest. What will be left for us to do if NCAA Football becomes as tainted as the NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL and NHL?
